Water Project

The first Phase of the water project has been completed and clean drinking water has been available to the community for several months now. The next phase is to add an elevated water tank and solar/wind pump to enable wider distribution of the water. Currently the orphans and their surviving parents walk long distances to fetch the water, thereby denying them time to study, for the children, and to engage in economic tasks, for the surviving parents.

Because On behalf of Nyamila Community Centre, Isaka Memorial Foundation has signed a water drilling contract with Euro Water Services of Nairobi, Kenya. The Secretary and Co-Founder of Isaka Memorial Foundation, USA, Dr. Mary Otieno, took time from the YWCA International Conference she was attending in Nairobi, to sign the documents on our behalf. The contract was prepared by our esteemed attorney, Dr. Patrick Lumumba.

The Center Manager, Charles Omondi has already obtained a Hydro-Geological Survey Report and a water drilling permit from the government of Kenya. The survey report, compiled by Siaya Watsan Development Group, suggests that we should hit the water level within 100 Metres.

The drilling work starts on Monday, 9th July 2007 and is expected to be completed within 2 weeks. I want to thank Mr. John Ondewe, a water development consultant in Siaya and Mr. James Ochieng, the NCC Asst. Treasurer and an employee of Standard Bank Nairobi, for the splendid work they have done to get us to this pointof the lack of room for expansion, we have relocated the centre from the original site to the prime land in from of the late Mzee Isaka Achoki's (for whom the foundation is named) home.
